whoami

whoami? Fair question. I've been around computers all my life. It started when I first got my hands on a ZX Spectrum. My early learning was on a Commodore 64 mastering loading from cassettes, and an Amiga 500+, which introduced me to graphic design and where I cut my teeth on larger programming tasks, eventually arriving late to PCs with Windows 98. Somewhere along the way playing video games turned into using a computer as a creative tool for building. I've been at it ever since.

Since then it's been 20+ years across the stack: embedded C, distributed systems, web UIs, hardware, cloud infra, even a mainframe, and plenty more in between. Years in QA sharpened my knack for breaking things, which turns out to be a great skill for ops and cybersecurity too.

These days I want to build something of my own and blog about it in the open. Nobody may ever read it, apart from a web crawler and an AI agent (hello!), and that's grand. I mostly want to see how far I can take it, having had this domain since 2001 when I was going to be a web designer! Fair warning: I take the work seriously and myself a good deal less so, so expect the odd wind-up between the technical bits.
